Eid al-Adha is proposed to be made a day off in Stavropol
Voting on the introduction of an additional day off on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha has started in the Stavropol Territory. The initiative belongs to Governor Vladimir Vladimirovich.
As explained by the StavropolMedia news agency, this year's holiday falls on May 27. According to Vladimirova, Stavropol is a multinational and multi—religious region, so it is important to take into account the traditions of different faiths. The governor recalled that the Orthodox holiday of commemoration of the dead, Radonitsa, has received the status of an official weekend at the regional level.
The decision on the day off for Eid al-Adha will be made taking into account the opinion of local residents. Voting takes place on the feedback platform of Public Services. It will last until May 11.
On June 3, 2017, Rushan Abbyasov, Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation (DUMA of the Russian Federation) for International Affairs and Hajj, said that Muslims should stay in their cities and pray at specially prepared sites during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Abbyasov also stressed that rituals related to the holiday should be carried out in specially designated places, such as farms or slaughterhouses, and not in courtyards or playgrounds.
