The European Union (EU) has approved the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. This was announced on April 23 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"I welcome the agreement of the member states to provide Ukraine with a loan of €90 billion for 2026-2027 and on the 20th package of sanctions [against Russia]," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to her, by doubling aid to Kiev and increasing pressure on Moscow, the EU has moved "on two fronts at once" in the confrontation with Russia.

Yesterday, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, noted that the adoption by the EU of the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions primarily threatens Ukraine, for which this step could be fraught with even greater devastation. This step, he added, is an effort to continue the conflict, which, in turn, can be called the purest absurdity.
