Russia has proposed a set of measures to combat vitamin C deficiency
The all-Russian movement "Healthy Fatherland" appealed to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova with an initiative to systematically solve the problem of vitamin C deficiency, which was detected in 70-90% of Russians. This is evidenced on April 23 by a text that appeared at the disposal of Izvestia.
In her letter, the leader of the movement, Ekaterina Leshchinskaya, proposes to oblige Rospotrebnadzor to regularly check the actual vitamin content in fresh products and ready meals for social institutions. It is also recommended to introduce standards for vitamin C in public procurement (44-FZ, 223-FZ), develop a manual for doctors on the prevention of deficiency and support producers of shock freezing of berries and vegetables.
In the field of preventive medicine, it is proposed to develop and distribute through the system of continuing medical education a short methodological guide for internists and general practitioners "Vitamin C deficiency: risk groups, diagnosis, preventive dosages".
The authors of the initiative are confident that the measures will not require significant budget expenditures, but in three years they will reduce the prevalence of shortages by a third and reduce the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections.
The "Healthy Fatherland" recalled that over the past 50 years, the vitamin C content in vegetables and fruits has halved, and chronic fatigue and frequent colds are increasingly associated by citizens with a deterioration in the nutritional value of products.
Svetlana Burnatskaya, a general practitioner at the Academician Roitberg clinic of JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia on the same day that with the onset of spring, many Russians are showing signs of fatigue and drowsiness due to vitamin C deficiency. According to her, this trend is also influenced by vitamin D deficiency. The first trace element, as explained by the expert, supports blood vessels and immunity, and the second is especially important for children who are in the growth stage.
