- The expert warned about the involvement of children in fraudulent schemes through online games
Scammers offer to level up a character or buy artifacts in online games to involve children in their schemes. Pavel Werner, Deputy head of the Siberian General Directorate of the Central Bank of Russia, told about this on April 23.
"When children are involved, they are offered something to increase the level of the player. <...> There was a very popular scheme when they got to know the child as part of the game and offered to purchase some artifacts for money and persuade them to provide personal data of the parents' cards," Werner shared in an interview with TASS.
Werner drew attention to the fact that now young people agree to the offers of scammers in order to make money quickly, but they do not know that since 2025, dropping is regarded as a criminal offense. According to Werner, the scammers offer to sell the card, cash out the money and get interest from it, assuring that there is no criminal liability for children under 14-15 years of age for this activity.
On April 21, Galina Zemskova, a member of the Union of Blogger Lawyers at the Kutafin Moscow Law School under the AYUR, said that scammers were offering Russians mortgage loans for a monetary reward, assuring them that they would assume obligations to repay them. She added that as soon as the apartment is bought and registered to a fraudster, he disappears along with the money.
