Russian water polo players beat Germany at the World Cup

The Russian women's national water polo team defeated the German team at the World Cup. On April 23, the team shared their impressions of the competition with Izvestia.

"Good score, high-quality game. The first period was like in boxing — we tested the potential of the German national team," said Sergey Markoch, the head women's water polo coach.

The coach stressed that the key element of the tactics was the concentration on defense. According to him, it was more important not to concede than to score.

According to national team member Bella Markoc, the team has successfully worked defensively and is ready to continue playing at the tournament. She noted that all the athletes are determined to move on.

Our water polo players will start in the second division with matches against Argentina, Germany and South Africa.

On April 21, the Russian women's national water polo team, for the first time since 2022, performing under its own flag and anthem, beat the Argentine team with a score of 33:11 in the first round match of the preliminary stage of the World Cup. It was clarified that a total of 15 teams are participating in the competition, each playing three matches.
