- Axios cited his conflict with Hegseth as the reason for the dismissal of the US Secretary of the Navy.
The US Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan, resigned due to a conflict with the head of the Ministry of War, Pete Hegseth. This was reported on April 22 by the Axios portal, citing sources.
"Hegseth felt that Phelan was too insubordinate by having a direct connection to [American leader Donald] Trump, whose Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach is located near Phelan's mansion," the publication says.
According to one of the portal's sources, Phelan and Hegseth "didn't get along." In addition, the article clarifies that the dismissal of the US Secretary of the Navy took many by surprise.
Pentagon Press Secretary Sean Parnell, Assistant Secretary of War for Public Affairs, announced on April 22 that Phelan was resigning from his post. He clarified that Hung Kao will become the acting Secretary of the US Navy.
