The West is actively trying to draw Turkey into the anti-Russian alliance. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by Vladimir Avatkov, Head of the Department of the Middle and Post-Soviet East of the INION RAS, Professor of the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy at MGLU.

"The main goal is to separate Turkey economically from Russia, and for this, sabotage is constantly being carried out on the Turkish Stream, on our nuclear power plant and on the Turkish economy as a whole. They need to separate Turkey from Russia and draw it into a new proto—alliance that is currently being formed in the European Union with Ukraine," the political scientist explained.

If this is not achieved, they will try to "throw the republic into a war with Israel," he added.

"And if this does not work out, they will intensively break Turkey from the inside through the knee in order to plunge it into a zone of chaos. The Americans do not need an independent Turkey, they need Turkey either controlled, or provoking chaos, or as part of an arc of instability," the analyst concluded.
