Eksmo's top managers have not yet been charged.
Four top managers of Eksmo-AST holding have not yet been charged. This was announced on April 22 by a source of Izvestia.
According to the source, none of them has been detained.
According to Izvestia, in 2018, Popcorn Books and Individual Print publishers, which are part of the Eksmo publishing group, began promoting LGBT literature aimed at a teenage audience with the investment support of the Irish book service. After a public scandal, the books were withdrawn from sale, and the individuals and legal entities involved in their publication and distribution were recognized as foreign agents.
A day earlier, Evgeny Kapyev, CEO of Eksmo publishing house, was detained in connection with LGBT propaganda (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). In Moscow, law enforcement officers searched the management of the Eksmo-AST publishing group. A criminal case has been opened under Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of the activities of an extremist organization").
Izvestia found out that the holding's management had developed a scheme to distribute books promoting LGBT among minors. We are talking about the novels "Summer in a Pioneer tie" and "What the Swallow is silent about" by Elena Prokasheva (pseudonym — Elena Malisova, recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) and Ekaterina Dudko (pseudonym — Katerina Silvanova, recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent). There are other works involved in the case.
A source from Izvestia reported on April 21 that Dmitry Protopopov, the former director of Popcorn Books, which had closed, had made a deal with the investigation into extremism, and ex-employees of the publishing house had testified against Eksmo's top managers.
