- Kostyukov announced the continuation of Alekseev's service in the GRU after his recovery.
Vladimir Alekseev, Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian General Staff, who survived the assassination attempt in February, has no plans to leave the service. This was announced on April 22 by the head of the GRU, Igor Kostyukov, in a conversation with journalist Alexander Yunashev.
"He is still undergoing treatment, recovery is required. But he will definitely come back," Kostyukov said, answering a journalist's question about Alekseev's health.
When asked by a journalist whether a plan of retaliatory actions was being prepared for the assassination attempt on Alekseev, Kostyukov remained silent, nodded and smiled meaningfully.
The assassination attempt on General Alekseev took place on February 6. The victim was taken to one of the city hospitals. On February 7, Alekseev regained consciousness. A criminal case has been opened into the incident, and the Moscow Prosecutor's Office has taken control of the investigation of the case under articles on attempted murder and illegal trafficking of firearms. Later, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that an article about an attempt on the life of a serviceman had been added to the case.
Later, on February 9, the participants in the assassination attempt Lubomir Korba and Vasin Sr. pleaded guilty to the crime. The FSB of Russia noted that Korba, the perpetrator of the assassination attempt, was trained at a shooting range in Kiev and was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) with the assistance of Poland.
