The Turkish authorities have not sent any requests to Russia for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), however, if such a need is identified, the Russian Federation is ready to reload existing gas pipelines. This was announced on April 22 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

"We have not applied for LNG supplies because we have a pipeline infrastructure that is not fully used today. If there is a need for additional volumes, we have free supply capacity through the Turkish Stream and the Blue Stream," TASS quoted him as saying.

As Novak noted, Russia is in constant contact with our Turkish partners. He added that Russian LNG is now in high demand on world markets amid gas shortages due to the conflict in the Middle East.

"We have a number of projects, which are being supplied to various consumers and buyers. These are all commercial issues. Our companies independently determine where to deliver. First of all, as I have already said, based on the principle of long—term friendly, partnership relations," he added.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on April 21 that the European Union (EU) countries faced difficulties in replenishing gas reserves for the winter due to record price increases caused by the conflict in Iran. Summer fuel prices have risen to winter levels, driven by supply constraints due to the situation in the Middle East and the EU's 80% storage capacity directive.

On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that he had an idea to instruct the Russian government to work out the country's withdrawal from the EU gas market, since Europe's energy policy has nothing to do with the interests of the peoples of their countries. In addition, the Russian leader said that the Russian Federation had informed Turkey about the data of its special services regarding Kiev's preparation of an action to undermine the Blue Stream and Turkish Stream gas pipelines.
