Impostor syndrome can directly affect income levels and career growth, causing professionals to underestimate their achievements and avoid promotion. Evgenia Ogarkova, a management coach, mentor and expert in the field of positive organizational psychology, told Izvestia about this on April 26.

"The difference in income between an impostor and an adequately self—evaluating specialist in the same position can reach 40-50%," she noted.

According to the expert, impostor syndrome is a cognitive distortion in which a person explains his success by chance and experiences fear of exposure. This leads to perfectionism, procrastination, and ignoring one's own achievements.

The expert stressed that such employees do not ask for a raise, take on tasks below their level and avoid additional bonuses. In business, the consequences can be more serious: entrepreneurs underestimate prices, do not delegate tasks, and refuse to scale.

She added that to overcome this condition, it is important to record achievements, work with feedback, and develop the skill of recognizing one's own limitations without fear of losing professional status.

According to Ogarkova, adopting the idea of continuous learning and giving up the pursuit of perfection help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence, which has a positive effect on income and career development.

On April 7, Roman Yerkhov, CEO of TuBi recruiting company, told Izvestia that the decrease in employee productivity is more often associated not with personal qualities, but with the peculiarities of the management system. According to the expert, the laziness of employees in most cases is a manifestation of procrastination, burnout or low engagement. The reasons for postponing tasks are lack of clear goals, lack of feedback, and loss of meaning in the work.
