In the Trans-Baikal Territory, seven shipments of imported vegetables infected with the quarantine virus of brown wrinkled tomatoes were detected in 3.5 months of 2026. The total weight of dangerous products was 7.7 tons, the press service of the regional Rosselkhoznadzor reports.

Another import attempt was stopped on April 16 at the TLT-Zabaikalsk temporary storage warehouse. The virus was found in a batch of hot fresh peppers from China weighing 135 kg.

The presence of the pathogen was confirmed by the results of laboratory tests, writes KrasnoyarskMedia news agency. The infected vegetables were returned to the exporting country.

The virus infects tomatoes and peppers, reducing crop yields by 30-70%. It is safe for humans. It is transmitted through seeds, tools, clothes, hands, bees and bumblebees. It persists in the soil and plant remains for up to several months.
