Kallas announced the blocking of sanctions against Georgia by one EU country
Most European Union (EU) countries support the imposition of sanctions against Georgia, but one state is blocking the introduction of appropriate measures. This was announced on April 21 by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
"Yes, there is a general mood. When we promoted sanctions, for example, against those who commit acts against the opposition or free media, we had 26 countries for and one against," she said in response to a question about whether the EU was in the mood to adopt sanctions against Georgia.
On March 6, the European Commission (EC) suspended the visa-free regime for holders of Georgian official, official and diplomatic passports. The relevant decision was allegedly made against the background of systematic and deliberate violations by Georgia of its obligations under the visa-free regime "in key areas of democracy and fundamental rights."
