Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, became the winner of the All-Russian municipal award "Service". The victory was brought by the project "Kazan. Unity in diversity." The award was presented to the mayor by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at the All—Russian Municipal Forum "Small Motherland - the Strength of Russia".
Accepting the award, Ilsur Metshin called interethnic harmony the main asset of the city.

"Today is the Day of the Municipal employee, our professional holiday. I remember how, at the age of 28, I entered the office of the first President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev. He gave me a parting message before going to work in my hometown of Nizhnekamsk. Then he said: "The most important thing in our work is interethnic harmony and interethnic peace. Please take care of him! May your hometown become a home for all nations and nationalities." For eight years of work in Nizhnekamsk and 21 years as Mayor of Kazan, I, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, have been doing everything to make Kazan a home for all nations and nationalities. This is our greatest asset!" the Mayor of Kazan emphasized.

Tatiana Golikova, in turn, noted that Russia's strength lies in solidarity and mutual respect for each other.

The project won the nomination "Unity of the peoples of Russia – the strength of the country". It is a comprehensive initiative that has been implemented in the city for several years. The concept is a systematic effort to preserve cultural heritage, strengthen interethnic harmony and promote the languages of the peoples living in Tatarstan.

The project is being implemented in several directions. For example, the Tree of Life introduces residents and guests of Kazan, which is home to 115 nationalities, to the traditions and customs of the peoples of the Volga region, and the Itil festival is a modern platform for creative dialogue between artists from different regions.

One of the highlights of the year was the theatrical performance on the balconies of the Kazan City Hall. Classical and modern works in Russian and Tatar languages are performed here.

This year, over 63,000 applications have been received for the Service Award, 1.5 times more than a year earlier. The selection of the best projects took place in 11 nominations: "Unity of the peoples of Russia — the strength of the country", "Development of the territory — the well—being of residents", "Development of the territory — the well—being of residents", "Strengthening partnership - expanding opportunities", "Everyone's initiative - common success", "From the front line to the municipality", "Professional staff — the future of the municipality", "A great legacy for future generations", "The welfare of the family is the priority of the state", "A young modern manager in the service of the country" and "Courage and heroism for the benefit of serving the Motherland".
