Lavrov pointed to threats in the US negotiations with Iran
Russia notes "threats, assurances" in the US negotiations on a settlement with Iran, but there are no facts yet. This was announced on April 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference with his Libyan counterpart Taher al-Baour.
"We don't see the facts yet. We see threats, we see promises, we see assurances that if you do this, you will prosper," Lavrov said.
At the same time, the minister noted that Moscow sees the position of Tehran, which claims that it has already been trapped by false promises. So, he recalled the Agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in 2015, which contained all the answers to the questions of the United States and fixed the absence of military developments in the Islamic Republic in the nuclear field.
"It established the strictest control over Iran's peaceful nuclear program in the world, much stricter than the measures taken by the IAEA for the countries that signed the safeguards protocol," Lavrov stressed.
In addition, speaking about the current negotiations, the diplomat pointed out that it is difficult to understand how confident the parties are in the sustainability of the principles that are being discussed as a way out of the crisis.
On the same day, American leader Donald Trump announced that Iran had violated the ceasefire agreement with the United States several times. The head of the White House did not provide specific cases of violations of the truce by Tehran.
The day before, Trump said that the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran would most likely not be extended. He also specified the end time of the truce. According to the American president, it will be "Wednesday evening, Washington time," that is, the night of April 22-23, Moscow time. The US president did not specify the specific time when the contract expires.
