Lavrov announced the reopening of the Russian Consulate General in Benghazi.
Russia will soon reopen its consulate General in Benghazi, Libya. This was announced on April 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"Another result of our work is that we have agreed in the very near future, in addition to the Russian Embassy in Tripoli, to open our consulate General in Benghazi," Lavrov said at a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Government of National Unity of Libya Taher al-Baour.
The Russian minister pointed out that Moscow and Benghazi are conducting a dialogue on intensifying bilateral relations, but for this the situation needs to be stabilized. Lavrov noted that the agreements on the cessation of hostilities are being respected, but sometimes various incidents still occur.
The foreign ministers also agreed to resume the work of the intergovernmental commission in order to facilitate the return of Russian business to the Libyan economy.
At the same meeting, Lavrov said that Russia was ready to assist and contribute to the establishment of unity in Libya. According to him, the Russian Federation seeks to cover the entire geography with its meetings and contacts with representatives of its Libyan colleagues and thereby contribute to the restoration of unity.
