Zakharova called the bridge on the border of Russia and North Korea a symbol of friendship.

The docking of the span of the automobile bridge over the Tumannaya River on the border of Russia and the DPRK shows the desire of the countries to strengthen friendly relations. This was announced on April 21 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The new bridge symbolizes the common desire of the two countries to strengthen friendly, good-neighborly relations and increase interregional cooperation," she said in a comment on the agency's website.

Zakharova added that Moscow "pays special attention" to the bridge project, and called it an important stage for Russian-Korean relations. According to her, the transport corridor will create the basis for bilateral cooperation and rapprochement of peoples through an increase in the number of trips, meetings and exchanges.

The diplomat also expressed hope that the bridge would improve transport links between the two countries and develop humanitarian and trade relations between the Russian Far East and the DPRK.

Earlier that day, the press service of the Ministry of Transport reported that Russia and the DPRK had completed the docking of the span of the first automobile bridge over the Tumannaya River in the history of the two countries. Construction work on the facility began in April 2025. It is planned to launch traffic on the new crossing in the summer of 2026. The total length of the crossing will be 5 km, of which 1 km is accounted for by the structure itself. The facility has two traffic lanes.
