Nebenzia commented on the Easter truce in Ukraine
Russia expressed the hope that, thanks to the Easter truce, Orthodox Ukrainians were able to celebrate the holiday in peace. This was announced on April 20 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia.
"We hope that this measure (the Easter truce. Nevertheless, it allowed a large number of Orthodox people to celebrate the great holiday in a calm atmosphere," Nebenzia said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
On April 12, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) had violated the Easter truce. It is specified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the positions of the Russian Army three times at night from the Pokrovskoye area. In addition, the Ukrainian army made four attempts to advance in the Kondratovka, Novaya Sich, Sumy region, and Kondratovka areas of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
On April 9, the Kremlin's press service website reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter truce from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12. It is specified that the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Andrei Belousov, and the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, were instructed to stop the fighting for the period of the truce.
