The UAE has warned the United States that if there is a shortage of US dollars, the country may be forced to use the Chinese yuan or other countries' currencies. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote about this on April 19, citing Emirati and American officials.

"In such a scenario, there is a hidden threat to the US dollar, which occupies a dominant position among world currencies partly due to its almost exclusive use in oil operations," the publication says.

According to the Emirati official, the UAE central bank has not received a request from the United States for a swap line that would allow the introduction of dollars at a low price to maintain the national currency.

The same article notes that the UAE has begun negotiations with the United States on obtaining financial support in the event of a war with Iran. The Emirates fears that the conflict will damage the economy, scare off investors and deplete foreign exchange reserves, as well as disrupt oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
