- The Ministry of Education pointed out the inexpediency of introducing a "fifth" quarter in schools
The proposal to introduce a "fifth" quarter in schools to increase the length of the school year is impractical. This was announced on April 19 by the press service of the Ministry of Education of Russia.
"In connection with reports in the media about an increase in the length of the academic year and the introduction of the so—called "fifth" quarter, the Ministry of Education of Russia informs about the inexpediency of such an initiative," the text of the statement on the website says.
The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov noted that the vacation period is traditionally used for recreation and recreation of children. He stressed that in addition to the classic summer camps, day camps have been operating in the country for many years. In addition, additional education institutions, as well as cultural and sports organizations at the place of residence, continue to operate in the summer.
On the same day, Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, said that Russia should increase the length of the school year by two weeks and create a "fifth quarter" for creative activities of schoolchildren. Grib noted that teachers should receive decent pay for conducting such classes.
The Ministry of Education also stated on April 4 that schooling, which lasts 11 years, fully meets the needs of children.
