The expert spoke about the disadvantages of a vacation in May 2026

Taking a vacation in May is not profitable, despite the holidays. Sergey Muravyov, HR Director of KROS, told the Prime agency about this on April 19.

According to the expert, the most profitable vacation option will be a short vacation after the second May holidays — then the salary loss will be minimal.

The lack of benefit lies in fewer working days — only 19. In this regard, the cost of one working day is higher, and a long vacation leads to significant salary losses.

Of the Russian destinations, travelers prefer two capitals, Krasnodar and Sochi.

Ekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, said on April 15 that holidays and non-working days in May 2026 would not affect the salaries of Russians. At the same time, additional support measures are provided for employees on hourly or piecework pay during non-working days.

Later, on April 17, Tatyana Golubeva, senior lecturer at the RANEPA Department of Business, Labor and Corporate Law, explained the mechanism for paying for vacations during the May holidays. According to the expert, if an employee takes a vacation starting on May 1 for 14 calendar days, he will rest for 16 days due to the holidays. However, only 14 days will be paid.
