- In Turkey, the consequences of the attack on the Turkish Stream were compared with the blocking of Hormuz.
The attacks on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline can be compared to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on April 18 by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar.
"The consequences of the attack on the Turkish Stream will be one way or another comparable to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz. We have already faced this after the explosion of the Nord Stream pipeline," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Bayraktar, there is currently no alternative to the Turkish Stream in the event of a possible attack. He clarified that it is this gas pipeline that provides gas not only to Turkey, but also to European countries.
On April 5, political analyst Andrei Kortunov said that the sabotage on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline section was a blow to the authorities of Serbia and Hungary. He noted that undermining the pipeline would also have serious economic and political consequences for Hungary. According to the expert, Turkey would be another victim, since a terrorist attack on a section of the gas pipeline would cast doubt on the reliability of not only its Serbian section, but also the entire Turkish Stream.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on March 20 that Budapest regards the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipeline and the attacks on the Turkish Stream as terrorist actions by Ukraine. According to him, such attacks on critical energy infrastructure are unacceptable and threaten the security of European countries.
