The dog handler named the reasons for the dog's rapid eating of food
The president of the Russian Cynological Federation, Vladimir Golubev, on Friday, April 17, told why a dog eats quickly, even if no one is in a hurry.
In an interview with Radio 1, the expert noted that the dog's habit of eating quickly is a common phenomenon with various causes: from banal hunger to instincts or health problems. According to him, it's not worth ignoring, but there's no need to panic either — it's important to monitor behavior and correct it.
Golubev explained that a pet may be in a hurry due to a lack of calories or high activity, especially for puppies. Competition for food may also be the reason, for example, if there are other animals in the house or the dog used to live in a shelter. In this case, it is recommended to separate the bowls and feed the animals separately.
The expert added that eating quickly is also related to instincts: dogs tend to eat food as quickly as possible, as if it could be taken away. Therefore, it is important to create calm feeding conditions and a clear regime.
He also stressed that sudden changes in appetite may be associated with diseases, including parasites and endocrine disorders, so if you suspect it, you should consult a veterinarian.
To correct behavior, the specialist advises using maze bowls, mats for slow feeding, or dividing the diet into several meals. He noted that dogs do not have the habit of "savoring" food, but eating too fast can be dangerous due to the risk of swallowing air and stomach churning, therefore, if alarming symptoms appear, it is necessary to urgently consult a doctor.
Golubev told Izvestia on April 16 that preparing a dog for a visit to a veterinarian or groomer helps reduce stress and make procedures more comfortable. According to him, it is important to teach the pet in advance to the manipulations he will encounter.
In an interview with RT on April 14, the specialist noted that when making a diagnosis such as depression, it is important to be careful not to blame it on any similar condition in an animal. If a dog is in pain, it may also refuse to eat, experience lethargy, apathy, whine, lick itself, the expert continued.
On the same day, he explained how to properly provide first aid after a dog bite. So, the wound should be washed with a soapy solution (preferably household soap) for 5-10 minutes, then treated with an antiseptic and covered with a sterile bandage, after which consult a doctor. In case of severe bleeding, a pressure bandage is first applied, and in case of arterial bleeding, a tourniquet is placed above the wound indicating the time and an ambulance is waiting. 360.ru .
