- The movement of merchant ships has been restored in the Strait of Hormuz. What is known
Iran has opened the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels for the period of Lebanon's truce with Israel. US President Donald Trump thanked Tehran for this decision. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Navigation mode
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced the full opening of the passage through the Strait of Hormuz for all commercial vessels. This decision was made within the framework of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and will be valid for the entire period of the truce.
According to the Minister, the vessels are moving along a special route. The corresponding corridor was agreed in advance in the Organization of Ports and Maritime Transport of Iran to ensure the safety of navigation.
"In accordance with the ceasefire in Lebanon, passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open for the remaining period of the ceasefire," Abbas Araqchi wrote.
The White House's reaction
Trump positively assessed the actions of the Iranian authorities to lift restrictions in the region. The American leader expressed gratitude for Tehran's willingness to restore full-fledged transit of ships through an important transport artery.
Trump noted that the Iranian side had officially confirmed the strait's readiness for the passage of ships. At the same time, earlier, the US president ordered the forces of the US Armed Forces Command (CENTCOM) to begin the blockade of Iranian ports after the failure of bilateral negotiations.
"Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage. Thank you," said Donald Trump.
The situation on the oil market
The aggravation of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has provoked drastic changes in the pricing policy of key exporters. Saudi Aramco, the national company of Saudi Arabia, has raised the cost of oil for Asian buyers to a record due to rising costs and threats to security of supply.
Kirill Dmitriev, the Special Representative of the President of Russia, warned of the serious economic consequences of prolonged closure of the strait. In his opinion, a shortage of raw materials is inevitable, and the cost of a barrel of oil may exceed $150 per barrel.
Dmitriev also stressed that the energy crisis in the UK and the European Union will worsen in proportion to the duration of the blocking of the route. The increase in energy prices will significantly prolong the recovery period of the global economy.
