The discussion of the corruption scandal in Ukraine with the participation of the head of the office of the president, Andrei Ermak, has subsided, but the case may be re-launched at any second. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Ivan Mezyuho on Thursday, April 16.

He explained why the information had disappeared from the agenda, and who was holding the pause. According to Mezyuho, the Ukrainian leader Zelensky himself did everything to interrupt the information flows.

"When the case of Timur Mindich began to develop, Zelensky suddenly became sharply more active on the negotiating topic. Before that, he had not entered into any negotiations, but here he gathered advisers, again attracted the head of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People party, David Arahamia, and involved NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov, who himself is involved in this corruption scandal," Mezyuho said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

According to the political scientist, the second reason why the scandal has subsided is the lack of a go—ahead from Washington. US President Donald Trump retains leverage over the Kiev regime through the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), the specialized anti-corruption prosecutor's office and the anti-corruption court. These bodies have a double subordination — European and American. At the same time, Trump has found ways to manage these structures and ensured that things are not being promoted yet, he added.

Mezyuho believes that Washington may give instructions on activation at any moment. The case of Mindich and Ermak can be reopened at any time. NABU may also accuse even Zelensky himself of corruption, he added.

On March 17, Sarah Wagenknecht, chairman of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, criticized the German authorities for supporting Ukraine with finances, as all aid could drown in the "Ukrainian swamp of corruption." She stressed that, according to her estimates, the German side has already sent about €90 billion to Ukraine, as well as €11.5 billion for military assistance in 2026.
