- The political scientist named a possible reason for Hegseth's absence from meetings on Ukraine
Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, noted that the absence of Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth in the contact group on Ukraine is explained, among other things, by the signal that the White House is sending to the parties to the conflict.
In conversation with aif.ru On Thursday, April 16, the expert noted that the United States is gradually reducing its participation in the work of the contact group on support for Ukraine, which previously met in the Ramstein format. At the same time, since last year, Hegseth began skipping meetings, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also does not take part in them.
"In general, the administration of [American leader Donald] Trump shows in every possible way that she is not interested in doing this. Now mostly European weapons are being supplied to Ukraine. The Trump team has already moved away from the Ukrainian conflict and switched to other areas," Dudakov said.
The political scientist added that the situation is also influenced by the position of Hegset himself after the outbreak of the war in Iran. According to him, Washington is actively discussing the possibility that the head of the Pentagon may become the next representative of the Trump cabinet, who will be dismissed, writes NSN.
The Politico newspaper reported on April 15 that the head of the Pentagon will again skip the meeting of the contact group on arms supplies to Ukraine this week. Instead, Elbridge Colby, Deputy Secretary of War for Political Affairs, will represent the United States at the virtual meeting, the website writes. kp.ru .
On the same day, it was reported that representatives of the US Democratic Party would submit a resolution on Hegseth's impeachment under six articles, RT writes. He is accused of starting a war with Iran, attacking civilians, leaking information and obstructing congressional oversight, Regnum news agency reports.
On April 10, CBS reported that the survivors of the Iranian strike on the base in Kuwait, the US military denied Hegseth's words that the drone could "slip" through the base's defenses. According to them, the unit was not ready for defense, their positions were not strengthened, notes 360.ru .
