Modern graduation looks are increasingly built around individuality, functionality and conformity to the inner state, not just the external effect. Anna Skorokhodova, stylist, accessories designer and founder of the by SKOROKHODOVA brand, told Izvestia about this on April 16.

"Choosing a prom dress today is not just about beauty, but about accurately fitting into the identity, character and context of the event," the expert noted.

According to her, in 2026, the key trend is to abandon boilerplate images in favor of a personal style. The classic "princess dresses" are being replaced by more sophisticated and thoughtful solutions that combine romance and practicality. In particular, sculptural minimalism is gaining popularity — laconic silhouettes with an emphasis on cut and fabric quality.

Skorokhodova also highlighted the updated corset aesthetic, which has become softer and more adaptive, as well as the asymmetry and flowing "liquid" dresses made of silk and satin. These models emphasize the natural lines of the body and create an effect of lightness without being overloaded with details.

Romantic style remains a separate trend, which is transformed by layering and translucent fabrics. At the same time, the transformability of the outfit plays an important role — the ability to change the image during the day with the help of removable elements.

The expert stressed that when choosing a dress, it is necessary to take into account not only trends, but also practical aspects. Among them are comfort, compliance with the format of the event and the possibility of reuse of the outfit. According to Skorokhodova, an important factor is also the choice of a color that should emphasize the appearance. Light types are suitable for cold and soft shades, contrasting looks are deep and saturated, and warm tones are optimal for dark skin.

The stylist added that accessories should complement the look, not overload it. In the conditions of minimalistic outfits, one accent element is enough, whereas complex dresses require discreet jewelry. The expert also recommended paying attention to shoes and comfort, as the prom lasts for several hours. The final element of the image is makeup and hairstyle, which should harmoniously complement the chosen style.

According to the expert, the modern graduation look is a balance between aesthetics, comfort and personal self—expression.

Skorokhodova said on March 26 that structured silhouettes with an emphasis on the waist are returning to fashion in Russia. According to the expert, the transition to an accentuated waistline was a reaction to the long-term dominance of the oversized free style. The new trend reflects the desire for a balanced appearance that combines aesthetics and convenience without the extremes of previous years.
