The US national debt will grow to 142% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2031. This was announced on April 15 in a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"The level of U.S. government debt is expected to continue to grow and reach 142% of GDP by 2031," the document says.

It is noted that the increase in the debt burden is associated with an increase in budget expenditures and a continuing federal budget deficit. Such dynamics may increase risks to global financial stability, including pressure on interest rates and investment flows, the IMF said.

According to the unofficial public debt monitoring portal US Debt Clock, on March 18, the US national debt for the first time exceeded the $39 trillion mark. At the same time, data from an online scoreboard tracking the amount of debt indicated that the indicator had exceeded a new mark and was continuing to grow.
