- The court found lawful the refusal to transfer ex-Colonel Zakharchenko to another colony.
The Moscow City Court found lawful the refusal to transfer former colonel of the Russian Interior Ministry Dmitry Zakharchenko to a colony closer to the place of residence of close relatives. This follows from the materials available to Izvestia.
Earlier, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow ruled to dismiss the claims of Zakharchenko's father. He reported that his son was very far from his place of residence, as Zakharchenko was serving his sentence in IK-49 in Komi.
Viktor Zakharchenko noted that, given his age and state of health, he could not visit the convict and maintain communication, so he would like his son to be transferred to a colony closer to him. The father was refused, as the transfer was impractical "due to the threat to the convict's personal safety."
Zakharchenko reported in November last year that his transfer to penal colony No. 49 (IK-49, Komi Republic) had seriously complicated his ability to communicate with his family due to the high cost and length of the journey. In his opinion, the transfer to this colony is a violation of his right to maintain social ties with his family.
Zakharchenko, who served as deputy head of the "T" department of the anti-corruption headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was detained in September 2016. During the investigation, he and his relatives were found to have money in various currencies totaling 8.5 billion rubles, as well as jewelry and real estate.
According to investigators, from 2007 to 2016, Zakharchenko systematically received bribes from an organized group. He was charged with receiving them and abuse of office. On May 17, 2022, the court sentenced Zakharchenko to 16 years in a high-security penal colony, as well as a fine of 500 million rubles in a bribery case.
In December 2022, the Moscow prosecutor's office appealed to the Nikulinsky District Court with a statement of claim for the seizure of Zakharchenko's property in the amount of more than 50 million rubles to the state.
Later on October 26, a court sentenced Dmitry Senin, an ex-FSB officer, to nine years in prison in absentia for brokering a bribe to Zakharchenko. The convict is currently on the international wanted list.
