- China has completed the sinking of the country's largest underwater tunnel for the Russian Railways
China has successfully completed the tunneling of a high-speed railway (HSR) along the bottom of the Yangtze River, which is the longest in the country and the third longest in the world. This was reported on April 13 by the Xinhua News Agency.
The tunnel connected Shanghai's Chongming district with the city of Taicang in Jiangsu Province in eastern China. The total length of the facility is 14.25 km, with 11.18 km of track running directly along the riverbed.
The project has become a key link in the construction of the Shanghai–Nanjing section of the Shanghai–Chongqing–Chengdu highway. This line will be part of the national high-speed road network, formed on the principle of eight vertical and eight horizontal branches. The underwater corridor under the Yangtze River is currently the largest and most technologically complex facility of its type in China.
"The extensive network of high-speed railways allows for trips lasting from one to two hours within urban agglomerations located 500 km from each other, trips lasting four hours between large cities located 1,000 km from each other, as well as travel distances of more than 2,000 km in just one day. One day," said Yu Jian, an expert at the Institute of Economics and Planning of Railways of China.
According to Chinese Railways (KZhD), by the end of 2030, the total length of high-speed lines operated in the country should reach about 60 thousand km. By 2035, this figure is planned to increase to 70 thousand km.
On March 2, the press service of the Russian government reported that Russia and China are considering the possibility of creating a bilateral working group to share experiences in the field of regulating unmanned vehicles. The initiative was announced during the working visit of Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin to China. In Beijing, he held talks with Chinese Minister of Transport Liu Wei.
