Employees of the Spanish migration service throughout the country may go on strike due to the high workload on the system for processing new applications for amnesty for illegal migrants, which was decided by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 14.

"The government is once again introducing a new legalization procedure without providing agencies with sufficient economic resources to implement it," said Cesar Perez, head of the immigration officers' union.

In this regard, immigration officials threatened to go on strike from April 21, the day after the start of accepting applications. At the same time, all over Spain, as a protest, the consideration of any applications for entry into the country has already been suspended.

The authors of the article emphasize that the amnesty decision is a central element of Sanchez's progressive program, even though other European governments are tightening border controls to prevent criticism from the local far right.

Der Spiegel magazine reported in February that warning strikes had been held across Germany at municipal transport companies. According to the newspaper, the strikes serve as a measure of pressure on the authorities on the issue of wages.
