Toxic behavior at work is more often manifested not in open conflicts, but in repetitive actions that undermine self-esteem and work stability. Evgeny Glagolev, the head of the Prosebia psychological hub, told Izvestia about this on April 15.

"Toxic behavior is often understood to mean any unpleasant manifestations, but the key feature is consistency. This can be expressed in the devaluation of ideas, manipulation, shifting responsibility or passive aggression — ignoring, harsh comments and exclusion from communication. In more severe cases, we are talking about bullying and abuse of power," the expert noted.

The expert emphasized that it is more difficult to protect personal boundaries in the work environment than in everyday life, since employees depend on each other and on management decisions. This often causes people to endure discomfort and avoid aggravating the situation.

Glagolev noted that the first step to protection is to clearly define unacceptable behavior for oneself. Instead of evaluating a person, it is important to record specific actions and their impact on work. He called the calm and concise designation of borders without emotional escalation an effective strategy.

According to the expert, consistency plays an important role: if violations are repeated, the boundaries must be regularly confirmed. At the same time, you should not go to extremes — ignore the problem or respond with aggression. The expert also recommended formalizing communication in some cases — recording agreements in writing, returning the discussion to work tasks, and avoiding emotional involvement in conflict.

Glagolev added that in case of systemic violations affecting the workflow and the atmosphere in the team, you should contact the management or HR. At the same time, it is important to operate with facts rather than value judgments.

He stressed that border protection is not a manifestation of conflict, but a necessary skill that allows you to maintain professional stability and reduce the impact of stress on work activities.

Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, told Izvestia on March 11 that working with artificial intelligence (AI) can cause depression and burnout among employees if interaction with the system is not built correctly. According to her, frequent interaction with AI can lead to depression and emotional burnout for several reasons. First of all, this is due to the loss of the meaning of work.
