Roscosmos has announced the launch of the New Start launch complex in 2027.
The first launch from the new launch complex at the Vostochny cosmodrome, which is being created as part of a joint project between Roscosmos and a private investor Novy Start, is scheduled for 2027. This was announced on April 13 by Dmitry Bakanov, Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation.
"The first launch is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2027. We have agreed on a serious amount of investment in our industry, in rocket engineering. They want to deal with rockets with returnable stages in order to be as competitive as possible on the world market," Bakanov said on the Vesti FM radio station.
According to him, the New Start company independently finances the construction of the site and implements projects in the field of rocket engineering. Agreements have also been reached on significant investments in the industry. It is noted that Roscosmos, in turn, intends to support the project.
Bakanov noted on April 1 that manned launches would sooner or later be transferred to the Vostochny cosmodrome, which would give an additional impetus to development, including personnel. The Vostochny cosmodrome will also receive a third launch pad for light—class rockets in 2026.
