- Mishustin called for a multiple increase in trade between Russia and Uzbekistan by 2030
Russia and Uzbekistan should multiply their mutual trade turnover by 2030, for which all the necessary bases have been formed at the moment. This was announced on April 13 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during a meeting of the Joint Commission at the level of the heads of government of the two countries.
"Russia is one of the leaders in terms of Uzbekistan's foreign trade, the mutual trade turnover grew by almost 12.5% last year, and it is now close to about 1 trillion rubles. In accordance with the agreements of the heads of state, we must multiply this figure by 2030. I believe that there is a necessary basis for the implementation of such plans," stressed the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The parties consider energy as one of the priority areas for strengthening industrial cooperation. Mishustin recalled that the Russian side has already begun construction of an integrated nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan according to a domestic project.
"The implementation of this large—scale initiative will undoubtedly give an additional impetus to the economy and social sphere of Uzbekistan, and will ensure that residents and businesses will be provided with peaceful nuclear energy for decades," the Russian Prime Minister said.
According to him, Moscow and Tashkent are also actively developing cooperation in the fuel sector. In particular, the parties reached agreements on the continuation and expansion of supplies of Russian oil and natural gas. In addition, with the participation of specialists from Russia, new wells are being drilled in the republic, as well as the modernization of the gas transportation infrastructure and processing system.
On March 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulations to his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the Navruz holiday, in which he pointed out that the current relations between the two countries are at a high level. He noted that the relations between the two countries are important for ensuring security and stability in the Central Asian region.
