Restoring the unhindered passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz is of "paramount importance." This was announced on April 13 by the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

"The ongoing blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is causing enormous damage. The resumption of shipping is of paramount importance to us," the Reuters news agency quoted von der Leyen as saying.

In addition, the EC President noted that with the ongoing attacks on Lebanon, "it will not be possible to achieve stability in the entire Middle East region."

Earlier in the day, Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesman for the central headquarters of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya military command, noted that the Islamic Republic considers the naval blockade by the United States illegal. He added that after the end of the war, Tehran will resolutely establish a permanent mechanism of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the United States would negatively affect international energy markets. According to him, Moscow is ready to help resolve the conflict.

On April 12, US President Donald Trump announced that the US Navy was beginning to block all ships that would attempt to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.
