The lawyers of the former husband of blogger Lerchek (Valeria Chekalina) Artem Chekalin hope for an acquittal. Their words were reported on April 13 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

The lawyers declined to comment further to journalists. The Gagarin Court of Moscow will announce the verdict of Chekalin in the near future. During the debate between the parties, the state prosecution requested 7.5 years in prison for him.

The day before, Lercek appealed to the court with a request to show mercy to Chekalin. The blogger thanked the judges for their humanity, compassion and the opportunity for her to focus on her treatment and time with her family.

On March 16, the court released Chekalina from house arrest after confirming her cancer. Also, due to illness, it was allowed to suspend judicial proceedings in the blogger's criminal case on her withdrawal of more than 250 million rubles to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A correspondent for Izvestia from the courtroom reported that the blogger's children live with her ex-husband.

The hospital doctors assessed Lercek's condition as moderate, her lawyer said. On March 11, Chekalina began treatment at the State Cancer Center. She was later taken to a medical facility to begin a course of chemotherapy. The lover and father of her fourth child, Luis Squicciarini, announced on March 8 that she had cancer cells.
