The lawyer spoke about the punishment for desecrating the St. George ribbon
Public desecration of the St. George ribbon can result in imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 5 million rubles for citizens. Alexander Khaminsky, a lawyer and head of the law enforcement center in Moscow and the Moscow Region, announced this on April 13.
The specialist recalled that since 2022, a law has been in force in Russia, according to which this attribute is equated to the symbols of the country's military glory.
"Citizens for desecrating the symbols of military glory of Russia, committed in public, will be criminally liable with penalties up to imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to 5 million rubles," Khaminsky said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, desecration is understood as the public spoiling of a tape, which is accompanied by the expression of a contemptuously negative attitude towards it. At the same time, other measures of influence are provided for organizations.
"Legal entities are administratively responsible for the public desecration of symbols of military glory of Russia. The Code establishes an administrative fine for legal entities in the amount of 3 million to 5 million rubles," the lawyer added.
Khaminsky clarified that the presence of dirty tape on the car would not be a reason to be held accountable. Nevertheless, the expert advised car owners to avoid contamination of the symbol and recommended placing it inside the cabin.
In May 2026, working Russians with a five—day schedule are expected to have three days off in a row - from May 9th to 11th. If a non-working holiday coincides with a weekend, the rest day is postponed to the next weekday. Thus, in 2026, Russians will get another long rest period.
