Starmer and Macron called for free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the importance of the Strait of Hormuz at a meeting on April 12 and stressed the importance of reducing tensions in the region.
"They agreed on the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global trade and energy supplies, as well as the need to work with a broad coalition of partners to protect freedom of navigation," the press service of the Prime Minister's office said.
According to Starmer and Macron, a ceasefire solution in the region must include Lebanon to maintain stability.
In addition, they noted the need for close cooperation between the United Kingdom, France and the European Union (EU) to jointly solve common problems.
American leader Donald Trump announced that the US Navy is starting to block all ships that attempt to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the negotiations in Islamabad went well, but the key nuclear issue remained unresolved. Trump said Iran had prevented free passage for ships by using threats about mines.
On April 12, Sky News TV channel, citing a source in the Government of the United Kingdom, published information that the United Kingdom does not intend to support the American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. It clarifies that representatives of the United Kingdom are working with France and other partners to create a coalition to protect freedom of navigation.
