On April 12, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, in honor of the great Easter holiday and Cosmonautics Day, shared his memories of the day when the first human flight into space took place, and told the family of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

"I remember how we celebrated, all the young people celebrated Gagarin's return from space. Then it so happened that for 25 years I was the ruling bishop in the city of Smolensk...> I remember Yuri Alekseevich's mother [Anna Gagarina] well, an Orthodox woman. They had icons in their house, she was not shy about anything," Patriarch Kirill said during a conversation with astronauts on the ISS, the video was posted on the ROC channel on Rutube.

He noted that the cosmonaut's mother did not hide her faith in God and went to the temple. According to him, this indicates that Gagarin was raised in an Orthodox family.

On April 12, Patriarch Kirill congratulated all believers on the great feast of Holy Easter. According to him, the resurrection of Christ symbolizes the victory over death and the opening of the gates of the Kingdom of heaven, and also stressed the importance of referring to the encouraging words of the prophet Isaiah.: "Do not be afraid, for I am with you."
