- Virologist Lukashev assessed the risk of infection with tropical fevers in the south of Russia
Aedes mosquitoes, capable of carrying pathogens of tropical fevers, live in the south of Russia, but the risk of disease from these insects in the country is minimal. This was announced on April 11 by Alexander Lukashev, director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology at Sechenov University.
"Aedes mosquitoes were introduced to Russia in 2008," the scientist told RIA Novosti.
According to him, there have been no outbreaks of such fevers in Russia and there are no plans for the foreseeable future.
Biologist Dmitry Safonov said on March 19 that an invasion of dangerous mutant ticks resistant to hunger, extreme weather conditions and aerosol sprays had been recorded in southern Russia. We are talking about ticks that are resistant to heat, are able to winter in Russia and go without food for a long time. According to the expert, their bite, in addition to the standard symptoms, can lead to the development of Congo-Crimean hemorrhagic fever.
