An ice jam formed on the Abakan River, which is why an emergency regime was introduced in the city of Abaza. This was announced on April 11 in the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Khakassia.
"An ice jam formed on the Abakan River during an ice drift. A 7 km long ice field blocked the riverbed. Rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and the forces of the territorial subsystem of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry have been sent to the scene to eliminate the consequences of an emergency," the press service said in a message on the MAX messenger.
It is specified that the tail of the ice jam is localized near the mouth of the Chernyshov River. There are 241 suburban areas in the flood zone, from which five people were evacuated.
The head of the Abaza, Valentina Filimonova, clarified in her Telegram channel that residents were being evacuated to the farm. The entrance to them is temporarily blocked.
On April 9, the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, proposed that the situation in Chechnya, where the flood occurred, be classified as a federal emergency.
