Lawyer warned about fraud schemes involving "space investments"
On the eve of Cosmonautics Day, fraudsters have stepped up deception schemes related to pseudo-investments in the space industry. This was announced on April 11 by lawyer Ivan Kurbakov.
"A common fraud scheme is the sale of shares of non—existent space companies or futures for future space resources," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the expert, the attackers offer investments in mining resources on asteroids, building orbital hotels or developing private space stations, promising high returns. To give credibility, they use the names of real companies and create fake presentations with the participation of supposedly scientists and engineers.
Kurbakov added that scammers also organize fictitious crowdfunding campaigns, raising funds under the pretext of developing innovative technologies. He stressed that special care should be taken with offers with guaranteed high profits, as well as in cases where urgent payment or transfer of personal data is required.
On April 10, the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory reported that intruders had begun distributing phishing links and fake QR codes under the guise of holiday promotions for Easter. It was clarified that scammers use participation in the Easter contest, collecting donations or the opportunity to buy a cake at a discount.
