The largest airports in the European Union (EU) may be left without jet fuel by the summer of 2026 due to the consequences of the military conflict in Iran. This was reported on April 10 by the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

According to the sources of the publication, the situation with reserves in a number of EU countries is close to critical. The accumulated reserves are only enough for 8-10 days of operation. Only two States in the region have sufficient fuel volumes to ensure the autonomous operation of air hubs for 90 days.

Experts cite Europe's high dependence on supplies from the Middle East as the main factor of instability. Before the outbreak of hostilities, the Persian Gulf countries provided 43% of aviation fuel imports to the EU. The situation was seriously complicated by the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts emphasize that even if regular shipping is resumed, it will take up to two months for logistics and unloading of tankers, which will not allow to quickly eliminate the shortage.

On April 7, the Spanish newspaper El País reported on the EU's preparations for an energy crisis due to the conflict in Iran. According to the newspaper, instability is already affecting the cost of energy resources and the costs of European consumers.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on April 6 that the European economy will face a sharp decline in performance for years to come if the situation with shortages and rising energy prices is not resolved soon. He also noted that the current situation is an extremely serious problem that can undermine economic growth.
