The burgeoning leak economy carries serious risks for ordinary users. Georgy Kucherin, a senior expert at the Kaspersky GReAT Global Threat Research and Analysis Center, warned about this in an interview with Izvestia.

According to him, attackers are increasingly using stolen personal data for fraudulent activities, creating the appearance of official access to closed databases. Such schemes are already being used by phone scammers who tell victims their date of birth or place of work in order to gain trust.

"Leaked databases allow cybercriminals to compose personalized phishing emails, which significantly increases the likelihood of an attack success. With the development of artificial intelligence, such emails can be generated automatically, and tools based on it will analyze leaks and generate individual messages in a matter of seconds," the expert said.

He admitted that in the future, personal information that was considered private would actually become publicly available. People will have to get used to the new level of transparency.

In response to these challenges, new professions may appear in the field of cybersecurity, for example, a consultant-analyst on digital reputation, which will help identify and minimize the risks associated with data leaks, concluded Kucherin.
