Named ways to stop weight gain with hormonal imbalance
Weight gain with hormonal disruptions can occur even with limited nutrition and requires an integrated approach to lifestyle. Irina Volgina, Associate professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, told Izvestia on April 10.
"Weight gain with hormonal disruptions is usually associated with a slowdown in metabolism, increased appetite, and fluid retention caused by an imbalance of thyroid hormones, cortisol, or sex hormones. This can happen due to diseases or medications that affect the hormonal system," the expert noted.
The expert stressed that in order to normalize the condition, it is important not just to follow a diet, but to change the lifestyle in general. In particular, fractional meals 5-6 times a day are recommended with calorie control, as well as a balance of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.
At the same time, fast carbohydrates, including sugar and pastries, should be excluded from the diet, as well as increase fiber and protein intake. Preference should be given to dishes made from fresh products, steamed, baked or boiled.
In addition, it is important to follow the drinking regime — in the absence of contraindications, adults are recommended to consume at least 2 liters of water per day. The specialist noted that stress levels play a significant role.
"Lowering cortisol levels helps to stop weight gain. Give up bad habits, follow a diet, sleep and rest regime: this has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the nervous system," said Volgina.
The expert also advises to include regular physical activity in daily life, mainly cardio, which helps to improve metabolism and sleep. At the same time, the specialist warned against the uncontrolled use of psychopharmacological drugs, noting that they can have a short-term effect, but do not solve the main problem.
Nutritionist at SM Clinic Alina Galkina explained on April 7 why the body sometimes resists weight loss. According to Galkina, one of the common reasons is an excessively strict diet with a serious calorie deficit.
