In Finland, cases have been recorded where pets were seized from refugees who arrived from Ukraine, after which they were euthanized after the intervention of specialized services. This was reported by Yle on April 9.

The publication learned about cases when decisions were made after inspection in veterinary institutions and inspections by animal welfare services. Ukrainian Olga Treshcheva said that in 2024, her 13-year-old Pekingese was killed in one of the clinics in the south of the country. According to the refugee, initially the doctors discussed treatment, but later reported on the serious condition of the pet and the need for euthanasia, invoicing about € 300.
