Metallurg defeated Torpedo in the first match of the Gagarin Cup quarterfinals

Magnitogorsk Metallurg defeated Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on home ice in the opening match of the quarter-final playoff series of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The match on April 9 ended with a score of 4:3.

The hosts quickly took a 2-0 lead: Daniil Vovchenko scored in the fourth minute, and Vladimir Tkachev scored in the seventh. However, the visitors equalized in the first period: Vladislav Firstov (13th minute) and Vasily Atanasov (16th minute) scored goals.

In the second period, Metallurg, as noted by Sport-Express, took the lead again: Danila Palivko scored in the 28th minute, and Nikita Mikhailis scored two minutes later. Torpedo reduced the lead in the 35th minute (Firstov's second goal), but failed to even the score.

Mikhailis scored the winning goal. The second match of the four-win series will be held on April 11 in Magnitogorsk.

Earlier that day, Yaroslavl HC Lokomotiv defeated Salavat Yulaev in the first match of the Gagarin Cup quarterfinals. Maxim Shalunov scored the only goal of the match, scoring at the end of the second period. The assistants were Maxim Berezkin and Rushan Rafikov.
