In Germany, the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and related public organizations are calling for the introduction of mandatory military exercises for reservists, the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported on April 9.

The publication clarifies that now any exercises or training of reservists are conducted in Germany on a voluntary basis, but the authorities intend to change their approach.

"In the current security situation, we cannot afford reserve forces operating solely on a voluntary basis," said Thomas Revekamp, chairman of the Bundestag's defense committee.

He also noted that the current principle of voluntary military service and participation in training camps has led to the fact that the Bundeswehr cannot fully engage in military planning. Reservists should be ready for rapid deployment in case of an emergency, said Revekamp.

Thousands of anti-war marches were held in Germany on April 5. It is noted that in Stuttgart, the police counted about 3 thousand protesters, in Berlin - 1 thousand people, in Freiburg — 400, and in Mannheim — about 400-500. At the demonstrations, one could see a white dove on a blue background — a symbol of peace — as well as the flags of Iran, Cuba and even Palestine.
