- Films "Red Silk" and "Yaga on our head" will be shown at the Singapore Film Festival.
A Russian Film Festival will be held in Singapore from April 9 to 24, where the spy detective "Red Silk" and the comedy "Yaga on our Head" will be shown. This was announced by the press service of Art Pictures Distribution.
"Red Silk" (directed by Andrey Volgin) is a Russian-Chinese espionage detective story set in 1927 on the Trans-Siberian Express. The painting has already been sold in 48 countries, and its distribution in China has raised about $ 2 million. The screening at the festival will take place on April 15.
"Yaga on our head" (directed by Alexander Voitinsky) tells the story of 10-year-old Petya and his teacher. Subsequently, she turns out to be a Yaga who has lost her magical powers. The main roles were played by Svetlana Khodchenkova, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Maxim Lagashkin and others. The film will be shown on April 24.
"The screening of the films "Red Silk" and "Yaga on our Head" at the Russian Film Festival in Singapore is an important step in strengthening international interest in modern Russian cinema. "Yaga on our Head" is a new interpretation of Russian folklore, which reinterprets familiar images for a family audience. In turn, "Red Silk" confirmed the high audience interest both in Russia and abroad, becoming the most successful Russian film at the foreign box office by the end of 2025. This was also shown by the distribution in China, where the film grossed about $ 2 million. The development of this story will continue: work is currently underway on a new film in the franchise, Black Silk, which is scheduled for release on March 31, 2027. We are confident that both projects will adequately represent Russian cinema abroad and will find a response from an international audience," said Svetlana Balanova, CEO of the National Media Group (NMG).
Anastasia Korchagina, CEO of Art Pictures Distribution, agrees with Svetlana Balanova, who pointed out the additional opportunities for promoting Russian cinema that the Singapore festival opens.
"Participation in the Russian Film Festival in Singapore opens up additional opportunities for us to promote Russian projects on international markets. We present films that combine genre appeal and universal themes that are understandable to viewers in different countries. "Red Silk" has already shown its relevance on the international market — the family painting "Yaga on our head" also has a high export potential. We are confident that both films will resonate with the Singaporean audience and the professional community," she stressed.
Elsa Antonova, General Director of the national film promotion operator Roskino, added that the Singapore event is an example of how art "helps to expand horizons and strengthen international ties, to show national heritage."
The festival is organized by Roskino with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Russian Embassy in Singapore and the Educational Center of the Russian-Singapore Business Council. The screenings are organized for both a large foreign audience and foreign representatives of the film industry.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 25 that Russia has a brilliant education system in the field of art and culture, so it must be supported. He also stressed the need to teach children, adolescents and youth more deeply and systematically about the contribution of Russian art to world culture. According to him, in recent years, Russia has directed many efforts towards the development of the national film industry.
On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).
