- An IT accelerator has started operating in Russia to support startups of young medical scientists
Ekaterina Dibrova, President of the V.P. Filatov International Foundation for the Development of Biomedical Technologies, spoke about the launch of the first domestic industrial IT accelerator, Young Medicine. It will help new methods of treatment, medicines, and medical devices to integrate into practical medicine, said a member of the Expert Council on Healthcare at the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy. The project is aimed at fulfilling one of the key strategic objectives outlined by the President of the Russian Federation, which is to ensure a technological breakthrough in medicine and accelerate the implementation of advanced domestic developments in practical healthcare.
"The Young Medicine IT accelerator provides young researchers with all the necessary tools for project implementation: it helps to form system management competencies, entrepreneurial thinking, provides timely expert support, and simplifies the search for investors and technology partners. The platform was developed in Russia: this reduces the risk of cyber attacks, leaks of important information and makes work more convenient, as domestic products are adapted to Russian standards of document management and security," explained Ekaterina Dibrova.
The Accelerator is a multifunctional platform that includes a 12-week mini-MBA training course in medical startup management, marketing and finance. Each participant has a personal account to present their innovative projects in the field of medical technology, diagnostics and therapy. More than 500 working hours are provided during the training period, which includes lectures, tests, essays and other educational tools. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Master of Business Administration diploma in additional education. Additionally, innovators are provided with access to face—to-face events of the V.P. Filatov International Foundation for the Development of Biomedical Technologies - lectures, forums and master classes. Thus, young scientists, researchers, clinicians, and developers of medical and biotechnological solutions focused on creating and developing innovative healthcare projects will be taught how to transform a scientific idea into a sustainable business model, build a project development strategy, form a team, attract investments, and present the project to the professional community and investors.
The Young Medicine platform is designed to become a catalyst that reduces the time gap between scientific discovery and its implementation in medical practice. This will help to preserve the health of the country's population. The accelerator participants are part of the growing community of professionals in the ecosystem of the All-Russian Scientific School of Young Medicine project. This allows young professionals to look for like-minded people, share knowledge and experience. As the President of the Russian Federation has repeatedly stressed, human resources are extremely important for the development of Russia's economy and technological sovereignty. The project trains qualified young professionals who are able to develop technology and economics, introduce fresh ideas and shape the future of the country.
Since 2021, the flagship project of the All-Russian Scientific School of Young Medicine Foundation has been actively supporting young medical scientists. Over the past 5 years, the project has helped Russian medical scientists obtain 16 patents, 12 projects are under piloting, and 6 developments have been implemented in practical healthcare. In 2026, the project received international status and became available to young medical scientists from India, China, Serbia and the CIS countries.
